The Grassroots Initiative Focus (TGIF) was founded out of this recent economic downtrend. Many construction companies and owner/operators in the Okanagan-Similkameen Valley lost equipment to the banks, laid off employees, and in some cases even went bankrupt. This put thousands of people on unemployment and welfare, and endangered their mortgages and family's livelihoods while waiting for the global economy to bounce back. Large, medium and small businesses alike were getting less and less value out of print advertising, as well as being forced to widen their work radius to try to make ends meet. Large marketing plans were not an option for the average business in the valley, and word-of-mouth advertising was also less successful than in previous economies. Homeowners saw a fall in the market and many decided to wait and improve their homes and properties instead of selling and taking a big hit- but found little choice for needed services in many geographical areas. We felt that if we could bridge our communities and pool our resources,
we all may just get out of this recession a little more easily than seeing everyone scrambling around on their own.

OkanaganConstructionServices.com was the vehicle that we felt could accomplish this for everyone.

For the residents of the Okanagan-Similkameen Valley, this website enables you to be aware of the many construction companies and services that are throughout our region, yet also available to you within your own community. Your local telephone directory only lists the companies that have offices in your area- yet there are so many more services that you may need! Now you have the ability to see who does business in your area- from the handyman to paving to snow removal, regardless of where their office is- as well as the opportunity to see some of their business profiles and websites. Also listed here are tool rentals, building inspectors and many other services that you may require for your project. Simply choose the area in which you live to see all the people that you now have access to-
including your local Chamber of Commerce and The Better Business Bureau.

Okanagan Construction Services also functions as a resume bank. If you are available for construction-related work and no one is advertising in the Help Wanted section of your local newspaper, how does your resume get seen?
Now you can post your resume in any town(s) in which you are willing to work, and in any categories that you are qualified to work in! See the Our Services page for more details on maximizing your job search potential.

For the construction companies there is no more paying for print ads and waiting for your fax, phone and email to be jammed.
Spend as little or as much time as you like browsing the resume sections of your chosen area to find people to work for you-
even ask if they can start tomorrow if an emergency has come up!

Okanagan Construction Services functions as an advertising agent for the entire valley. Wherever you choose to work, you will be listed. If you wish to be listed in more than one category, simply let us know which ones you are qualified to be listed under.
Unlike print advertising and existing on-line directories, our price remains the same regardless of how many places you wish to be seen. The public will see your business listing and, if you choose, a business profile or website as well. We encourage photos to be sent to us for our gallery, where the public can see examples of work that they may like to have done (as well as who did it!).
Larger construction companies will also be viewing you, as you may want to contract jobs out to them. We pay for the internet advertising and for the print ads throughout the valley so that you won't have to. There will also be radio ads and contests, etc-
the large marketing plan that will get you seen, without the large cost! For more information on how you can be seen anywhere
in the Okanagan-Similkameen Valley, please see our Contact page for options.

Okanagan Construction Services functions as a directory for the project manager/business owner who is trying to build a realistic quote for a job, allowing you to minimize your bid and maximize your profit. From accommodation to tool rental to resumes to sub-contractors, the listings go on and on. This website was made to be a tool for you to use for your business needs, and for networking with other community businesses at the same time. For your convenience there are links to BidBC, BCOneCall, etc, as well as listings
for local chambers, municipal halls, The Better Business Bureau, etc.

There are many features of this website that everyone can use- we have included many resources and there is no membership fee.
Bookmark it and use it often! Coming soon to the website is also a lease/sell/barter pool for the construction sector, as well as some other surprises. If you have suggestions on something you would like to see, let us know. This website is still under construction...
(pun intended) so check back often to see more content!

Thank you for your time and for your interest in our project.
